How Reflexology Works

Reflexology maps the entire body on the feet — the right foot reflects the right side of the body, the left foot the left. Specific zones correspond to every organ: the big toe to the head and brain, the ball of the foot to the thorax, the arch to the abdominal organs, the heel to the pelvic region.

Practitioners apply targeted pressure to these zones using thumbs, fingers, and knuckles. Tender or crystalline textures in a zone indicate congestion or imbalance in the corresponding organ.

What Reflexology Can Address

Reflexology supports a wide range of conditions:

  • Stress, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation
  • Digestive disorders — IBS, constipation, bloating
  • Hormonal imbalances — menstrual irregularity, menopause
  • Headaches and sinus congestion
  • Lymphatic congestion and immune support
  • Fertility support (when combined with other treatments)
  • Fatigue and adrenal exhaustion
  • General relaxation and preventive wellness

What to Expect in a Session

A reflexology session is 45–60 minutes. You remain clothed except for feet and lower legs. Sessions begin with a relaxing foot soak and visual assessment, followed by systematic pressure work across all reflex zones.

Most clients find reflexology deeply pleasurable. Tender zones may produce a brief 'good hurt' sensation — a diagnostic signal that normalises as the zone releases over the course of the session.

Reflexology and Integrative Care

Reflexology integrates beautifully with naturopathy, kinesiology, and other therapies we offer. Many of our clients use reflexology as their regular maintenance tool — a monthly session that keeps the nervous system regulated and organs supported.

The feet carry the whole body — reflexology honours this by listening to the body through the soles.

Evidence Summary

A 2014 meta-analysis found reflexology significantly reduced anxiety scores in clinical populations across 17 studies, with consistent effects comparable to relaxation therapy. Evidence also supports benefit for premenstrual syndrome and menopause-related symptoms.
