Origins of Reiki
Reiki (pronounced 'ray-kee') was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. 'Rei' means universal or spiritual wisdom; 'ki' means life force energy (equivalent to Qi in Chinese medicine or Prana in Ayurveda).
Reiki practitioners are trained to channel this energy through their hands — placed lightly on or just above the body — to support the recipient's energy field and promote healing.
What Happens in a Reiki Session
You lie fully clothed on a massage table. The practitioner places their hands in a series of positions on or above the body, remaining in each position for 2–5 minutes while the energy flows.
Most recipients experience warmth, tingling, or deep drowsiness during the session — often falling asleep. Sessions run 60–75 minutes.
