Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, tuning forks and gong baths — ancient resonance tools meeting modern neuroscience to restore calm, clarity and deep rest.
Book a Sound Session Gift VouchersSound healing is one of humanity's oldest therapeutic traditions, used across Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, Indigenous Australian ceremony and ancient Greek healing temples alike. At Health Therapies Clinics in Lane Cove, we bring this tradition into a contemporary clinical context — combining genuine practitioner skill and high-quality instruments with an understanding of the physiological mechanisms underpinning sound's effects on the nervous system.
Sound works on the body and mind through the principle of resonance: every organ, tissue and cell has a natural vibratory frequency. When these frequencies become disrupted by stress, illness or emotional holding, sound can help entrain the system back toward coherence. The vibrations of singing bowls and gongs are experienced not only through the ears but through the whole body — the bones, fascia, organs and fluids all respond to acoustic input.
Our sound healing practitioner works with clients from Lane Cove, Chatswood, Artarmon, Willoughby and the broader North Shore, offering both individual therapeutic sessions and immersive group sound baths.

Book OnlineTraditionally hand-hammered from a blend of metals in Nepal and Tibet, Tibetan singing bowls produce rich, layered overtones when struck or circled. Placed on or around the body, they deliver both acoustic and physical vibration. Their complex harmonics are associated with theta and alpha brainwave entrainment — the states associated with deep relaxation, creativity and the hypnagogic threshold between waking and sleep.
Made from high-purity quartz crystal, crystal bowls produce pure, sustained tones typically tuned to specific musical notes and chakra frequencies. Their sound carries further and penetrates more deeply than metal bowls, creating a full-body immersion in sound. Crystal bowl tones are often described as profoundly clarifying and emotionally releasing.
Calibrated tuning forks deliver precise vibrational frequencies directly to acupuncture points, bones and fascia. When applied to the body, they bypass the auditory system entirely, working through direct physical vibration. Commonly used frequencies include 128Hz (for bone and pain), 512Hz (for aural balance) and Solfeggio frequencies associated with various healing intentions.
The gong is perhaps the most powerful instrument in the sound healer's toolkit. Its vast harmonic spectrum produces an almost overwhelming richness of sound that can induce deep meditative and trance-like states within minutes. Gong baths are particularly valued for their capacity to dissolve mental chatter, release emotional blockages and create profound experiences of stillness and spaciousness.
Lighter, more delicate instruments used to open and close sessions, guide transitions and create spaciousness between the denser vibrations of bowls and gongs. Koshi chimes and frame drums are particularly well suited to grounding and gentle nervous system regulation at the conclusion of a session.
Some of our instruments are tuned to A=432Hz rather than the modern concert standard of A=440Hz. Proponents suggest 432Hz resonates more naturally with biological systems and with mathematical patterns found in nature. While the evidence base for specific frequency preferences is still developing, many clients report 432Hz tuning feels noticeably softer and more grounded.
Sound healing's physiological effects are increasingly supported by emerging research in neuroscience and psychoacoustics. Several mechanisms are understood to contribute to its therapeutic impact.
The brain has a tendency to synchronise its electrical activity to external rhythmic stimuli — a phenomenon known as the frequency following response. The sustained, layered tones of singing bowls and gongs can guide brainwave activity from the high-frequency beta waves of ordinary waking consciousness toward the slower alpha, theta and even delta states associated with deep relaxation, meditation, creativity and restorative sleep.
The vagus nerve — the primary nerve of the parasympathetic "rest and digest" system — is sensitive to vibrational and acoustic input, particularly low-frequency sounds. Sustained tonal sounds activate the vagus nerve, shifting the nervous system away from sympathetic "fight or flight" activation toward parasympathetic rest. This is reflected in measurable reductions in heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol and muscle tension following sound sessions.
Research has demonstrated reductions in salivary cortisol following sound bath exposure. Combined with self-reported improvements in mood, pain perception and anxiety, this provides a growing physiological rationale for sound healing as a stress management and recovery tool.
Sound healing sessions make a thoughtful and genuinely restorative gift. Individual and group session vouchers are available at our Lane Cove clinic and can be delivered digitally or in print. Ideal for birthdays, new parents, corporate wellness gifts or simply someone who needs to be given permission to rest.
View Gift VouchersAn individual session allows the practitioner to select instruments, frequencies and techniques specific to your presenting needs. If you are working with pain, trauma, specific organs or targeted emotional release, an individual session is recommended. Your practitioner may combine sound with breathwork, guided visualisation or acupuncture point stimulation via tuning forks.
Individual sessions run for 60 minutes and are held in a private treatment room at our Lane Cove clinic. You remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a treatment table. Sessions are deeply restful and most clients report lingering calm for hours to days afterward.
Our group sound bath events bring together a small community of participants for a shared immersive experience. Participants bring their own yoga mat and pillow (or hire from us) and lie in a warm, dimly lit space while the practitioner moves through a journey of instruments — typically opening with lighter tones, building through multiple bowls, and arriving at the gong before a gentle return.
Group sound baths are a wonderful introduction to the practice, and many regular participants find the collective field of group intention adds a dimension not achievable alone. Check our bookings page for upcoming dates. Private group bookings are available for workplaces, wellness events and retreats.
Absolutely not. Sound healing is accessible to everyone, including those who struggle to meditate or find their mind difficult to quiet. The instruments do much of the work — you simply need to lie down, close your eyes and allow the sound to wash over and through you. Many first-time clients are surprised by how easily they enter a deeply restful state.
Sound healing is gentle and well tolerated. However, we recommend caution for those with epilepsy, sound-triggered seizures, acute psychosis, cochlear implants or significant hearing sensitivities. Pregnancy is not a contraindication, but please inform your practitioner. If in doubt, discuss with your GP before booking.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing you can relax in fully. For individual sessions, everything is provided. For group sound baths, please bring a yoga mat, pillow and blanket (or hire from us for a small fee). Eye masks are provided. Arrive a few minutes early to settle and minimise disruption to others once the session begins.
Yes, and we actively encourage it. Sound healing pairs particularly well with acupuncture (which can be incorporated into the same session), kinesiology, psychotherapy and naturopathy. Many clients find sound healing accelerates the integration of other therapeutic work. Speak with your practitioner about how to sequence or combine treatments.
Individual and group sound healing sessions at our Lane Cove clinic. Open seven days, 9am–9pm. Gift vouchers available year-round.
